The 2004-2005 school year is the fifth consecutive year that the
eCommEd Curriculum package has been in use in High Schools. Over 50
High Schools and BOCES organizations have used this program to teach
thousands of students how business is done on the Internet.
Students who take part in an eCommEd course or project are taught and
learn using two different methods. The first is the traditional
classroom method in which the teacher presents a lesson, supporting
it with lecture, discussion, and reading materials. The second
teaching method integrated in all eCommEd packages is the real-world
workplace training method. Students in the eCommEd classroom are also
employees of real e-companies that are operated from the classroom.
Included with every eCommEd course package is a fully supported and
maintained website that the class uses to operate a real on-line
business.
Students participating in the full eCommEd Curriculum publish an
on-line information service about their high school. Students
participating in the eCommEd e-Lection Connection curriculum organize
and run an on-line political campaign and election inside their
school. Students participating in the eCommEd Lite curriculum use
their website to promote a fund-raising event in their community.
Students involved in the eCommEd e-Auction lesson, get the
opportunity to operate their own on-line Auction.
It is this seamless integration of the classroom and workplace
teaching models that make the family of eCommEd products so unique
and so effective as business education tools. Students in an eCommEd
program are taught success proven e-business concepts and then get to
apply those concepts to real-world tasks as employees of real
e-commerce businesses. This instant application of what they are
taught to a real job activity gives eCommEd students the instant
experience, lesson reinforcement, and gratification that makes
learning fun and worthwhile.
