History of the Leafs

Birch Tree High School has had one of the best Basketball programs in upstate NY since its founding in 1912. Their record over 92 years is 1104W 736L.Every Head Coach at Birch Tree has retired with a winning percentage. Recently Coach Malone has announced his retirement after the 2004-2005 season.

The Leafs have appeared in the state tournament 33 times with a record of 72 wins and 29 losses. The Leafs have also made a NY-record 20 trips in the Final Four (Eastern Final).

The greatest moment in Leafs history came in 1988 when the Varsity team won there first and currently only state championship. They went a perfect 18-0 during the regular season and cruised to the state championship crushing every opponent. They set a state record by winning each game by ten or more points. The Leafs star player at the time was Senior Charlie Gronouts. You can read more about Charlie in the profiles section.
