Vote Today!

Today, Niskayuna Central Schools is conducting a vote on the proposed budget for the 2013-14 school year.  Though many, especially students—seem apathetic to the cause of the vote.  Despite the fact that it effects them directly.

In essence, this vote is one that will determine what attributes of the Niskayuna district will remain intact as a guillotine of cuts is proposed.  If the pass fails tonight, by not reaching the required 60% supermajority, it means that some educational departments will have to cut back in the upcoming school year as well as another vote on June 18th.  If the vote tonight passes, it means that Niskayuna as we know it now will remain in intact, though a tax increase will take effect for the upcoming school year.

As you may have seen, the town has been flooded with campaign signs urging voters to vote yes or no on this issue, as well as promotions for specific candidates for school board. With so much at stake, for both students and their parents—this election is certainly nothing for anyone in the district to be apathetic about.  So be sure to cast your vote, and make sure that your voice is heard at the polls! Polls close at 9pm on May 21st, so don’t miss your chance to vote on your future.
