Two days ago, a level 5 tornado ripped through Oklahoma City killing at least 91 people, 20 of them children, and flattening homes and schools in its path. Hospitals were bombarded with the injured, but those were only the people lucky enough to make it out of the rubble. Many remained trapped as rescue workers worked to make their way through the debris and search for survivors.
Plaza Towers Elementary School was reduced to a pile of trash. Rescue crews were able to pull several children from the rubble, but on the evening of the disaster, they struggled to save more children from fallen beams and other debris.
Neighborhoods were leveled and wreckage was carried into streets, which made it even more difficult for emergency responders to get to affected areas. In 40 minutes, the tornado was able to bring fire to buildings and other structures, flip over cars, tear roofs off of schools and other facilities, and take away almost 100 lives.
A spokeswoman from the mayor’s office in Moore, OK said “Please send us your prayers.”
