Careers and Financial Management Class Explores Wall Street

On April 10th, students in the Careers and Financial Management  class roamed the canyons of Wall Street, where billions of dollars are traded daily. Visiting Federal Hall for an up close encounter with the beginnings of democracy in America, where George Washington was inaugurated., and the first "stock" market trading occurred on the street corner, students finished the day at the Museum of American Finance. A look at the history of money as well as making and managing money inspired everyone to contemplate careers on Wall Street.

 

FBLA Visits Franklin Early Childhood Center

On March 28th, 2008, members of Hewlett High School's Future Business Leaders of America Club visited Franklin Early Childhood Center as part of their Junior Achievement program.

Music Department Events

            Yesterday, March 18, 2008, was all district jazz night. At this concert, the elementary schools, combined into one jazz band; the middle school jazz band, and the high school jazz band all played. The middle school and high school jazz bands were accompanied by guest soloist Mike Richardson.

 

            An upcoming event is the music department’s trip to Disney in Florida. Our orchestra, marching band, jazz band and chorus will all be performing. This trip occurs once every 4 years.

STOCK MARKET CLUB WINNERS!

One of the Stock Market Club's teams has placed first in the Fall Newsday Challenge! One of our teams placed 1st out of 968 teams across Long Island in a nail-biting finish. With only one week left in the competition, the team was placed third, but with hard work and good decisions they ended in first place. They will be featured in Newsday and will receive a cash reward. A good job to all teams that participated and a new competition will begin in the Spring.

Career Week!!!

It’s finally career week!!! Career week is March 10th-March 14th. It’s for people who are deciding what career they want to be in. On Tuesday, in Computer Technology and Careers, and the Health classes, there will be speakers describing different fields for different careers. Watch out for them. Some people already know what career they want to be in. Others are relying on the speakers for inform them.

 These speakers have taken time out from their days, to introduce different fields of businesses to our students. People are very excited for Career day/week.
